Clayton High School Student Unearths Vintage Ink Bottle
A unique piece of local history was uncovered on the first day back to school at Clayton High School. Student Ryan Norris discovered a vintage Sheaffer's Skrip glass ink bottle that had been hidden underground for many years.
The bottle was exposed during recent renovation work taking place next to the high school. While exploring the area, Ryan noticed the old glass bottle barely sticking out of the ground and dug it up. The find offers a small glimpse into the past, when ink bottles were commonly used for writing before modern pens became widespread.
Although its exact age is unknown, the discovery serves as a reminder that even ordinary construction projects can reveal fascinating pieces of history. Ryan's exciting find makes the first day of school one to remember.

Clayton Elementary School's after school program will not be in operation the first week of school. We will begin Monday, August 10, 2026. If your child is in PreK through 5th grade, the after school program is available to you. Your child will bring home a sign-up sheet after the first day of school.
